What Is Iodized Salt?
Why iodine is added to salt and whether it affects the flavor of your food.
Iodized salt is table salt with added iodine, a nutrient that helps prevent thyroid problems.
Introduced in the 1920s, iodized salt helped eliminate iodine deficiency in many countries. Sea salt and kosher salt usually don't have added iodine.
Kitchen Tip: Use kosher salt for cooking and iodized salt for general seasoning if you want the iodine benefits.
