When Old Habits Don't Disappear Right Away
How to Stay Encouraged and Grow in Faith After Accepting Jesus
After praying to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you might find that some old sin habits linger in your life. For example, if lying came easily to you before, it may still be something you struggle with. These are called sin habits, and the enemy (Satan) will try to convince you that you haven't really been redeemed. He is a liar and would love for you to feel defeated, causing you to slip back into your old ways.
The Bible refers to this as "falling from grace," meaning you've turned away from God's perfect will for your life and fallen back into your old habits. When this happens, don't stay discouraged. Turn back to God, remind the enemy that he's a liar, and declare that he was defeated at the cross of Jesus. Most importantly, forgive yourself for falling back into those old habits.
God is gracious and always ready to help you get back on track. Continue growing by reading your Bible and asking the Holy Spirit to guide and teach you. A great place to start is in the first four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), where you can learn more about Jesus' life and teachings.
Find someone you trust—whether it's a parent, grandparent, friend, pastor, or youth leader—who can support you and help you grow in your faith. Remember, spiritual growth is a process. Just like you can't see what's happening beneath the soil when a seed is planted, growth is still happening. Be patient, trust God, and know that change will come!
Today I Confess
Change takes time, but grace is constant. I am growing, being renewed daily, and I don't give up when progress feels slow.
