Any Burn Mustard Tip
A simple kitchen remedy — cold yellow mustard applied to burns — that draws out heat and eases pain from early-stage burns.
Cold yellow mustard applied to a mild burn is one of those remedies that has been passed down through generations and continues to be used because it works. The cold temperature of refrigerator-stored mustard provides immediate relief, while mustard's natural compounds — including allyl isothiocyanate and selenium — may contribute additional soothing and healing effects.
This remedy is suited for mild, early-stage burns from cooking, hot surfaces, or steam — the kind of minor burn that stings intensely but has not blistered or broken the skin. For those burns, the combination of cold application and mustard's properties can meaningfully reduce pain and may limit the degree of tissue damage when applied promptly.
Apply as soon as possible after the burn occurs. Rinse off before the mustard fully dries, and follow with aloe vera if available. The smell dissipates quickly after rinsing. Do not use on blistered, broken, or severe burns — those require medical attention.
